Soundbox is a tiny open-source HTML5 software synthesizer / tracker that runs in the browser.
esaruoho composed the original soundtrack for the demoscene production Zebrain — the world's first MATLAB demo — entirely in Soundbox. Zebrain received Outstanding Technical Achievement at The Meteoriks 2019 (see Zebrain — Outstanding Technical Achievement, The Meteoriks 2019). The award is for the production and its music.
In the course of that work, Esa also contributed code improvements to the Soundbox project itself:
The composition and the tool were developed hand in hand — the piece pushed the tool, the tool shaped the piece. The usability fixes were made while composing, to make the work faster and more comfortable — not after the fact.
