The Meteoriks is the European demoscene awards programme, held annually in Germany. The Outstanding Technical Achievement category recognises productions that push the technical state of the art.
esaruoho composed the soundtrack for Zebrain using soundbox, an open-source HTML5 tracker. During the composition he also contributed code improvements to Soundbox itself — extending the tool to handle what the piece required, with patches flowing back to the upstream project.
The soundtrack and the tooling were therefore co-developed: the composition shaped the tool; the tool shaped the composition.
The same production also took 1st place in the Combined Demo competition at Demosplash 2019 — see its pouet.net entry. So Zebrain carries two honours from 2019: the Demosplash compo win and this Meteoriks award.
