Lackluster

Esa Ruoho live at the Live Ambient Festival, Pori (2025) Live at the Live Ambient Festival, Pori — 2025

Solo instrumental electronic music project by esaruoho, active since 1996. 456 published tracks across three decades (371 as Lackluster, 49 as Esa Ruoho, 36 as HLER — counted from the canonical catalogue).

Released internationally on label vinyl and CD through the 2000s; self-publishing via Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal since.

Complete catalogue (canonical, auto-generated)

The full catalogue is pulled from lackluster.org's Drupal JSON:API into this vault (sources/{releases,gigs,press}.json, via _publish/ingest_lackluster.py) and rendered by _publish/generate_music.py. These three pages are the complete, canonical record — every release, not a hand-picked subset:

Released across 131 labels over three decades — Merck Records, Kahvi Collective, Monotonik, Psychonavigation, deFocus, Project Mooncircle, n5MD and many more; the labels: field above lists the ones with ≥4 releases, derived from the data, and the per-release label is on the discography page.

Free-energy themed releases

A defining thread of the Lackluster project: 22+ releases encode obscure, little-known free-energy research — Tesla, Schauberger, Russell, Keely, Fuller, LENR / cold fusion — in their titles, artwork, and release dates. The music carries the knowledge to listeners who would never find the archive directly. Named examples:

This is the same person who wrote the 2012 Schauberger feature (Vesi on elävä organismi! Viktor Schaubergerin elämä) and maintains MERLib — the music, the writing, and the archive are one body of work.
