Helsingin Työttömät HeTy ry — Publicist, 2015–2017

Getting to do a brief internship at the Helsinki Association of the Unemployed under the tutelage of a senior web-publicist was a good opportunity, as I involved myself in the social-media strategy for the organization, setting up a Twitter account and maintaining their Facebook presence — scheduling Facebook posts and explaining the bare-bones of Facebook page management to others. I later continued as the main publicist, took care of the Wix → WordPress CMS migration and all kinds of other things.

Since the HeTy ry website was running on the fairly archaic CMS Wix, I was approached to start the migration process to WordPress hosting.

In order to keep the PowerPoint-based electronic displays up-to-date with information on weekly meetings, IT-course scheduling, Friday trips and the weekly lunch menu, I used TeamViewer. Taking all that back to analogue, I also kept the bulletin boards up-to-date with the same info.

Spending time tweaking the Wix-based website resulted in going on to develop content archives for improving search-engine visibility — pages with information and links on past weekly meetings, lecturers and links to their individual websites. Maintenance was pretty much the keyword for the web presence.

Since HeTy provides courses for the employed and the unemployed, I had a chance to hone my presentation skills by preparing and delivering three lectures — two on Twitter basics and one crash-course on Instagram. I think each lecture went better than the one before.
